Western Road

This is a, Folk,Ballad with a hint of East Coast Folk/Celtic influences. This is an original composition written by Don Girard. This was inspired by the a visit to the Stan Rodger's Festival at Canso. Looking around the town and seeing the Homes boarded up and the Business's closed.
With the East Coast Fisheries closed and dying. The Town's people have no other option but to head out west to the Oil Sands to get work. It is the same for most of the Atlantic and Maritime Provinces. It is the reason for this song dedicated to the hard working Men and Women of the Out Ports and the resilience of life here in the East Coast.

I like it, but not the jumper.

did I buy that for you?

shoot me now

No, but you can always buy me a new one for my birthday.

Waste of Ammo!

Ignore her, Old Tarf. Your talent far outshines a manky old jumper.

;-)

There was a series a few years back. An experimental type of thing where a group of Canadians were to recreate the experiences of early settlers and were given only the materials that would have been available at the time.

Most enlightening and addictive to watch. The couple that became central to the program stuck rigidly to the spirit of the experiment and succeeded against incredible odds (not least the corrupting influence of modern locals.)

My admiration for such people (the originals) knows no bounds._Tough, tough, tough !

Not sure what they would have made of that jumper though.

EK- Probably used the jumper to catch fish in.

Or Socks and a Toque for an unruly Daughter.

Ha ha.

Both you and Mermaid have a cracking sense of humour.

Obviously a family trait.

The Old Tarf said...

Ek- is that a good thing or bad thing.

I like your new logo.

I think humour is always a good thing.

My new logo is Burberry coloured as favoured by chavs.

'Chav' has become part of the English lexicon in recent years and is a collective noun pertaining to scrotes. It is believed to be derived from an acronym Council Housed And Violent.

Scrote. This is a shortened version of the word scrotum which first appeared in Joseph Wambaugh's The Choir Boys - a tale of LAPD cops. This word was used by one of the principal characters, Roscoe Rules, to describe various miscreants. The word was soon adopted by English speaking police officers the world over.

The chav is in the ascendancy in da YooKay at the moment. It is truly becoming the country of the welfare dependant and unworthy of the traditional red white and blue Union Flag under which honorable and brave men and women fought and died to preserve our way of life and liberty.

My little protest I suppose. I'm a little bothered that it may be mistaken for an allegiance to the British National Party - a far right movement of which I would have no part.

I had wondered what the colours meant.

As I saw no white in the logo. I thought it showed the decline of the British Way of life.

The darker colors showing the change of the demographics of England today.

There was an Old Joke about being a W.A.S.P.. White Anglo Saxon Protestant.( Not that I am Far Right wing either.)

things do change and some times it appears to be bad in the short term but in the long term turns out to be good.

A case in point with the First Nations over here. I can remember when in Canada we had a kind of apartheid. they were not allowed in our stores and bars etc. So the changes made to involve them into the society was a good thing.

Like women's Rights, Bilingualism. there are still a few over- kill ideas to sort out but 20 years down the road, will be good for everyone.

Unless someone in the mean time press's the button. Then I will just have to kiss my ass goodbye. I thought I had given that up after I left work.

I liked the song but not the jumper and I am unsure about the plant as well.. Great Stuff Old Tarf - keep putting it out there!

The Old Tarf said...

Mutley- Thank you for pointing out the plant. It must remind you of a tree so I better remove it. Good thing you didn't see my fire hydrant.

I could always mail you the jumper! It would look good with the Hat.
